Bangkok
Nothing spectacular actually happened during our overnight stay in Bangkok. Except that we got the chance to become spectators of some free-spirited human beings in the comfort of the sidewalk of Khao San Road while we waited for our taxi service to the airport a few hours before dawn. Some intoxicated tourists were being carried by their sober buddies who probably wished that they could make it to their respective hotels free of smelling like a tom yum soup-disgorged matter. And, a few hookers in their skimpy outfits were promenading back and forth along the street and had been so persistent trying to get their last deal before they could call it a night.
Khao San Road is a backpackers haven in Bangkok. An extraordinary lively vibe wraps every corner of this district. Pubs, bars, affordable restaurants and eateries, street food, silver accessories, handicrafts, paintings, souvenir items, clothes, inexpensive travel agents, massage and spa, etc. If you're a budget traveler in this city, what more can you ask for? Well, of course, a good night rest. You may not be able to get a sound sleep if you stay along Khao San Road's busy night spot as music and noise from pubs and bars can be so loud and could last until past midnight. So you might want to consider an accommodation a few blocks away and still remain close to this vibrant street.
New Delhi
"Yes! This is the day!" It was about more than four-hour flight from Bangkok to New Delhi. To kill my anxiety over flying, I kept myself busy browsing through whatever papers I could read in the plane. I watched down below the coastline as we moved in the air and located them on the map found in the airlines' magazine. "Oh that's Thailand." "Okay, that must be Myanmar." "That looks like Bangladesh." After a few moments, my eyes felt tired reading and my neck ached a bit. I allowed myself to doze off for the remaining hours of the flight. In-between my sub-conscious' wandering moments and one-side-after-another head turns, one familiar view from afar was quietly allowing itself to be seen. The Himalayas!
Wow! The Himalayan mountain range! Even from a vast distance, the peaks capped with snows, one peak after another and another, couldn't hide themselves from the thick group of clouds around them. Yeah, that is the roof of the world, no other. With no doubt, that awesome view gave me goose bumps and left me agape with wonder. My whole being spontaneously felt and profoundly expressed my great admiration towards these highest peaks in the world. Its power captured my being without a warning that I couldn't control wishing to myself, "Someday, someday..."
The high emotions brought by seeing the Himalayas from afar later had subsided and turned into an unpleasant state of uneasiness as we approached New Delhi airport. The pilot in command had announced the final approach. From the window, I saw nothing but clouds and fog. Actually, I really couldn't tell the difference between the two in this particular situation. My eyes got stuck over the reduced visibility view outside the window. We slowly glided down across the suspended water vapor in the atmosphere. After a few minutes, the watch tower appeared from a certain point and then the landing strip became clearly visible. This was my second experience landing in fog and I don't think I will be able to get used to it. This part of the journey was my longest two minutes and my fastest heartbeat rate record I had ever endured in this flight. It was a great relief our plane had safely landed. Well finally, Hello India!!!
